What does it mean to feel a sense of belonging? Is it something we acquire as we grow or something inherent within us?
In times like this when there are so many cascading crises, we can feel overwhelmed and exhausted. Sometimes it just feels like all of our efforts are not paying off in the way we were hoping. We’ve done the work and trusted in the outcome, and yet not everything is falling into place.
Why Don’t I Feel Happy With My Life?
Most of us seek a sense of belonging from birth and continue to look for this throughout our life — usually in the form of approval or affirmation of some kind. If we’re lucky our parents provide this for us, but that’s actually rare. So how do we feel like our life is worthy and that our time is meaningful?
Recognizing Your Smaller Achievements
I’ve made a list of affirmations and gratitudes that help remind me of who I am and why I’m on the path I’m on. It’s a tool that I access when I’m feeling down and having trouble motivating myself. Lately, my overwhelm has come from the daunting predictions of climate change. I can easily get lost in the numbers and become paralyzed. To pause and honor this is important, but it’s not healthy to stay in that place.
How Can I Feel Fulfillment?
How can we create a sense of fulfillment for ourselves that doesn’t depend on outside reassurance? If we can feel content with ourselves then the outer world has less of an impact on us. How can we come to terms with our own thoughts of fulfillment? I think a lot of this has to do with being clear about our core values and cultivating ways to support ourselves in following a path that aligns with our values.
